“What a fantastic way to celebrate our 50th anniversary of independence. And at the same time help our local community.
“It’s fingers crossed on our World Record attempt though as we won’t know for some time if we’ve baked an Island Delight World Record Breaking Pattie, officially being acknowledged as the largest pattie ever made, and then very quickly consumed!”
Cleone Foods have been baking and producing authentic recipe Port Royal Jamaican patties in Birmingham since 1989. They are the very first UK company to produce an authentic Port Royal Jamaican pattie product sold through supermarkets.
Patricia Hoskins, Birmingham Central Foodbank Manager, said:
“It was great to work with Cleone Foods on this project. Birmingham Central Foodbank supports a variety of services, agencies and charities across the inner city area of Birmingham with emergency food parcels. The Midland Heart hostel at Trinity Close, Handsworth is one of our referral agencies; we suggested the pattie go there as a fun way for their residents to celebrate Jamaican independence and have a tasty meal together too. We’ll look forward to working with Cleone Foods again on future projects.”
“Baking such a magnificent pattie and taking part in the ‘Jamaica in the Square’ event in Birmingham’s Victoria Square was simply inspiring and gratifying,” said Wade, “Knowing we were joining in with many other Jamaican communities across the country as we all simultaneously joined in with the Jamaican High Commission Flag Raising event at the O2 Arena in London.”
