This was the third time that we has taken part in the Caribbean Festival in Birmingham. We were also involved on the organising committee, as part of our ongoing commitment to support community events. The festival was very well supported and the organisers think visitor numbers have increased from the 150,000 last time.
Birmingham Caribbean Festival
Victoria and Chamberlain Squares, two of Birmingham’s prime city centre venues, will once again be holding the colourful, vibrant, and entertaining Caribbean Festival. Sponsored in 2012 by Levi Roots of “Reggae, Reggae Sauce”, the event attracted over 150,000 people and generated thousands of pounds in trade for local businesses.
A mention of the Caribbean often conjures up images of white soft sandy beaches and pristine waters. Here at Birmingham Caribbean Festival 2014, we can bring you Jamaican Jerk, Bajan Rum Punch, Trinidad & Tobago steel pans, reggae music, arts and crafts and an explosion of colours and exuberance.
You will also be able to explore the islands’ rich history and culture through the spoken word, photographic exhibitions and workshops.
This growing annual festival is fast becoming a summer extravaganza equivalent to the winter Frankfurt Christmas and Craft Market and a ‘not to be missed’ family friendly event.
