Island Delight, part of the UK-founded company Cleone Foods, was born from a love of Jamaican culture and cuisine. Wade Lyn, the company’s founder, moved from Jamaica to the UK and in doing so, quickly discovered that supermarkets lacked some of the tasty treats he was so used to enjoying. The unique flavours of Jamaican cuisine are relatively scarce in UK supermarkets, yet with a stable demand for savoury snacks and ‘on-the-go’ food, it was easy to see that there was a gap in the market for Jamaican patties.
Jamaican Culture
Alongside representing our love of Jamaican cuisine, Island Delight is also keen to replicate the strong values of Jamaican culture too. Much of Jamaican culture is built around loyalty, generosity and kindness, and we want our company to reflect this.
Supporting Local Businesses
Despite our patties being stocked in most UK supermarkets now, we still have a great understanding of what it’s like to be a small local business. Where possible, we try our very best to support local independent businesses when it comes to sourcing ingredients. This isn’t possible all of the time due to the unique nature of our ingredients. However when there’s an opportunity to invest money back into our local economy, we’ll always take full advantage of it.
Alongside supporting local businesses, sourcing local produce also means we can try and keep our food miles to a minimum. Therefore, reducing our carbon footprint is a huge priority for us here at Island Delight.
Working with Charities
At Island Delight, we are always looking for ways to support charities and causes. We believe that businesses have a responsibility to help support charities where possible. Whether it’s a small or large gesture, charities can always benefit from donations.
Donating Patties for Events
Over the years, we have worked hard to perfect our Jamaican pattie recipe. Our patties are based on authentic family recipes from back in Jamaica. We love seeing thousands of customers enjoy our products each year, and we want as many people as possible to taste our delicious Jamaican patties. So, when we receive requests for pattie donations for events, we’re always happy to consider supporting them.
As mentioned above, we’re very keen to ensure our brand stays reflective of true Jamaican culture. With this in mind, when we are looking at events, brands, and projects to work with, we will always make sure that they align with our own company values first.
Food Banks and Charitable Donations
Throughout the year, and at Christmas time in particular, food banks, churches, and local charities will often call out for food donations. Island Delight is always happy to help out where we can, having often donated patties to food banks and charity fundraisers.
