When you see products on a supermarket shelf you might think ‘where does this come from and how did it get here’? Well, we will elaborate on the Island Delight journey to give you insight into how we deliver Jamaican-based food products to UK supermarket shelves. Supermarkets are a significant stakeholder for Island Delight as they provide the platform for us to share the True Taste of Jamaica.
The Island Delight Production Process
The idea and inspiration are brought to life with production. What is so important to the creation of Island Delight, is that our production is overseen by key figures within the company. This includes Wade Lyn himself. With such control on the production process, we maintain high quality throughout. We believe in this operation as it ensures those that know the product best are always close to the journey of the pattie. Therefore, we are consistently producing and delivering authentic Jamaican patties to the end consumer.
Production has been ever-present at Icknield Street since 1994. By remaining at the same site, the quality of the Island Delight pattie has been consistent. In addition, we source a range of the finest ingredients, fused to produce the desired spice of our patties. We source local ingredients if possible as we like to support the community. Also, each batch of our fresh patties is tried and tested as part of our quality control. We want to ensure every pattie we make available to consumers, is of the best quality possible. We fulfil this value of ours by our site being a BRC AA graded site- our love for Icknield Street is strong. As the saying goes, ‘why change something that isn’t broken?’
Sustainable Packaging And Final Checks
After our patties have gone through our quality checks and controlled process, they are wrapped in recyclable plastic. Subsequently, they are delicately placed in our Island Delight branded bio-degradable cardboard packaging. What makes our packaging even more attractive, in particular for supermarkets, is that it has Shelf-Ready Packaging (SRP). Efficiency and waste management is key.
Furthermore, a big change we made this year was with our ready meals. We made the move to sustainable packaging with Evolve– this involves using post-consumer recycled materials for our ready meal trays. So, by adopting these environmentally-friendly methods, we are able to work towards our sustainability goals.
Once our batches of patties are packaged and assigned the final approval, they are ready to be loaded for distribution into supermarkets across the UK. Sainsbury’s? Morrisons? Asda? You will be able to find Island Delight SRP within these stores. You can find our Jamaican goods in the chilled units of stores, usually in the pastry section. Because of the nature of our product, you will likely find us in the World Food Isle, where Island Delight will be waving the Jamaican flag.
