Island Delight at the World Pasty Championships

The Pride of Cornwall

Earlier this year the Island Delight team took the opportunity to take our unique and alternative product to the traditional and well-known World Pasty Championships in Cornwall.

Described as The Pride of Cornwall, the Championships awarded a wide range of prizes to category winners – with categories for alternative pasties like ours as well as that traditional Cornish recipe. The event took place on 28th February at the Eden Project and we really enjoyed every moment of it!

Drawing Attention

Both Wade and Ripton Lyn attended the event with Ripton demoing out products and showing off just how fantastic our traditional Caribbean patties can be in the face of the local Cornish competition.

Of course our particular patties aren’t quite the thing that the competition is looking for but we’re welcome to show them off and we love doing so, with plenty of attention drawn to our stand at the last event.

The BBC Wanted to Know More!

Our presence at the event was definitely felt as Wade even had an interview on BBC Radio Cornwall and we’re keen to build up our relationship with the event, with plans to even possibly create a brand new pattie to enter next year’s competition, more in line with their specific criteria.

The popularity of our stand means we’ll definitely return and are excited to take along our new gazebo to ensure everyone who wants a taste of our great product gets one – we also hope it will mean Ripton can carry out even more product demos.

We Will Be Back Next Year

The World Pasty Championships actually have eight categories for prizes with the competition split into the Cornish Pasty and Open Savoury groups, with Company, Professional, Amateur and Junior prizes awarded in each group.

The competition is held in high esteem across Cornwall and beyond with a celebration of the traditional Cornish recipe as well as high quality savoury pastries in general. Pasties and their derivatives, including our vibrant and fragrant Caribbean patties, are enjoyed around the world and this competition was a great opportunity to celebrate them.

The team at Island Delight love getting out and enjoying events across the country, showing new markets just how fantastic our spicy Caribbean pastries are.

Next year we hope we’ll definitely be back, bigger and better, and maybe we’ll even walk away with a prize!
